The German national football team won the first qualifier for the European Championship 2020. In the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam won the DFB selection 3: 2 (2: 0) against the Netherlands. The DFB team had initially lost a 2-0 lead.

Leroy Sané took the German national team into the lead, benefitting from a mishap from center-back Matthijs de Ligt. Toni Kroos had sent Nico Schulz on the left wing towards the baseline, from where the Hoffenheimer flanked flat on the first post. There de Ligt stumbled and fell to the ground, so Sané remained unchallenged in the opening goal (15.).

The Netherlands also scored several dangerous chances in the first round with Ryan Babel (25th and 27th), in which Manuel Neuer strongly parried. The balance did not succeed. Instead, Germany lost 2-0 to Germany in a spectacular fashion: after a long ball by Antonio Rüdiger, Serge Gnabry moved from the left past Virgil van Dijk in the middle and threw the ball unstoppable in the long corner (34).

Serge Gnabry leaves the most expensive defender in the world: Virgil van Dijk from Liverpool.

Netherlands equal in 15 minutes

Directly after the restart, the hosts reduced the gap to Germany. After a corner kick of the Dutchmen, the ball landed again on the wing, where Memphis Depay flanked into the box. There, de Ligt approached and made with a massive header to 1: 2 his mistake from the first half good (48.).

Only fifteen minutes later, the ball landed again in Neuers goal. Mathias Ginter and Niklas Süle could not clear a ball in the penalty area, so Memphis was able to shoot the ball flat in the left corner (63.). Neuer saw the ball late and could not prevent the 2: 2 from close range.

In the final phase it was Nico Schulz who scored the winning goal for Germany. After noteworthy preliminary work by Ilkay Gündogan and Marco Reus shot Schulz in the back of the defense the ball in the right corner to 3: 2 for the DFB-Elf.
