The conditions were clear ahead of the European Championship qualifying match between Ukraine and Italy. A draw or victory for Italy would have sent the Italians to the championship in Germany the next summer.
However, a Ukrainian victory would give Ukraine a direct place at the European Championship, while Italy would have to qualify via the Nations League.
Premier League stars protested
The match, which was played in Germany, was buttoned up and offered few scoring chances – but in the 93rd minute the opportunity presented itself for Ukraine.
The ball was played into the box from the right wing, and Chelsea star Mychajlo Mudryk went down.
However, the referee chose to give a free, and there was no penalty. A great deal of anger erupted on the Ukrainian bench and Arsenal's Oleksandr Zinchenko was one of several who showed their displeasure.
0–0 was the final result and Ukraine will thus try to qualify for the European Championship via the Nations League play-off this spring.
