The 34-year-old delivered five birdies on the last six holes and was instrumental in helping Europe catch up from a 13-11 deficit to a 14-14 final lead. A result that gave Europe the victory (a draw is enough for the reigning champion).

"Hedwall scored his points. 30 minutes earlier, we had no idea how it would all end. Everything was really decided at the last second," said European captain Suzann Pettersen.

Hedwall himself was lyrical after the victory and clenched his fist in a rush of joy:

"It's really nice to find that turnaround. Suzann (Pettersen) believed in me. It was very nice to show that. Absolutely fantastic, says Hedwall to SVT Sport.
