• Matchday 5 This is how Athletic 3 was narrated - Cádiz 0

The domestic football competition has changed the sponsorship for the 2023/24 season, so it has been renamed LaLiga EA Sports. One of the video game company's initiatives to promote itself is to include the FC 24 (formerly known as FIFA) video game tokens of the players of the initial 11 while posing for the media.

An original measure that, however, has generated controversy in the match that faced Athletic last weekend with Cádiz in San Mamés.

The local players showed their chips, which included their score in the aforementioned game, their face... but not the flag of nationality, as it was shown in the case of the players of Cádiz -and other First Division teams that promoted the FC 24 of EA Sports-.

Why didn't Athletic's starting 11 have 10 flags from Spain and one from Ghana (Iñaki Williams)? Some media claim that the Bilbao leaders asked permission for them to be suppressed because it could cause discomfort among Basque fans.

This point has not been officially confirmed by Athletic and from LaLiga it is not expected to go beyond an anecdote at the start of the national championship of regularity.
