A fan was shot dead on the outskirts of the Argentine capital Buenos Aires on Monday after a brawl between violent ultras groups called "Baras Bravas" near the Lanús stadium, local police said.

The victim was shot during an exchange of fire between two rival groups of fans of Lanús himself, hours before the last match of the Argentine first division football league against Paracas won by the local team 2-<>.

At least six people were arrested, while the man who was still alive died after being taken to hospital from his injuries.

Clashes between violent fan groups often occur in Argentina; according to the NGO Salvimos al Football, clashes on and off stadiums have killed 300 people since football went professional in the thirties, a third of them since the nineties.
