Argentine soccer star Lionel Messi has committed to Inter Miami (MLS) until 2025, the American club announced Saturday. He should be officially presented by his new club on Sunday and then make his debut on Friday on the North American fields. "I am very happy to start this new stage of my career with Inter Miami and in the United States," the former Paris Saint-Germain player said in the statement.

«

This is a fantastic opportunity and together we will continue this wonderful project. Our goal is to work together to achieve the goals set and I am very much looking forward to contributing to this at my new club," added the seven-time Ballon d'Or, crowned world champion last winter.

I dreamed of bringing the greatest players.

Messi's arrival, who emerged at Barcelona between 2004 and 2021, is the most important event for Major League Soccer since that of English player David Beckham, now one of Inter Miami's owners, at the Los Angeles Galaxy in 2007. Beckham made Inter Miami's MLS debut in 2020 after long searching for a stadium for the new team.

«

Ten years ago, when I set out to establish a new team in Miami, I said I dreamed of bringing the world's greatest players to this extraordinary city, players who shared the same ambition as mine when I joined LA Galaxy, to contribute to the development of football in the United States and build a legacy for the next generation of the sport we love so much. " said David Beckham.

«

Today, that dream has come true. I couldn't be prouder to see a player of Leo's calibre join our club and I'm also thrilled to welcome a good friend and family to the Inter Miami community. The next phase of our journey begins and I can't wait to see Leo step into the field," he added.
