The Wimbledon Championships took place on the sixth day of the tournament on the 8th, with the pair of Kato and Indonesia's Aldira Souchadi facing a pair of Belgian and Russian players in the second round of the women's doubles.
The match started with the first set going on with each other, and after Kato's pair broke with accurate shots in the 1th game with a game count of 5-5, they held on to the next game and took a 11-7 lead.
The pair took the second set 5-2 and won the set count 6-4 in straight sets to advance to the third round of the Wimbledon Championships for the first time.
The pair advanced to the third round of the four major tournaments at the French Open in June, where they were disqualified for a ball hitting an opponent's court during a break from play and deemed a dangerous act.
Other Japan were Eri Hozumi and Spain losing to the U.S. and Chinese players 2-0 in the second round of the women's doubles, and in the first round of the women's doubles, Makoto Ninomiya and Spain lost to a pair of Brazilian players and Belarusians by a set count of 3-6.
