Record attendance in Cologne for the match against Eintracht Frankfurt

The average attendance in the Women's Bundesliga increased significantly in the 2022/2023 season. A total of 359,404 fans watched the football matches live in the stadium last season, as the German Football Association (DFB) told the RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland (RND).
On average, this corresponds to 2723 spectators per game. That's about three times as many fans as in the previous season. In 2021/2022, a total of 108,483 spectators and an average of 806 fans came to matches.
The most successful was the team of Eintracht Frankfurt. A total of 64,093 fans watched the games of the third-placed team. According to the DFB survey, a total of 63,256 fans came to VfL Wolfsburg and 1,59 to 306.
Highlight games« in larger stadiums
The previous attendance record for the league was achieved by the match between Cologne and Frankfurt on Matchday 18. 38,365 fans watched the duel at the Rhein-Energie-Stadion. In the past season, the clubs had increasingly relied on "highlight games", in which the clubs moved to larger stadiums.
For example, 23,000 spectators came to Deutsche Bank Park for the season-opening match between Frankfurt and FC Bayern Munich.
In the summer of 2022, the DFB team had already caused a boom by reaching the European Championship final against England. Almost 18 million people watched the final on TV, it was the sports programme with the most viewers in the entire year.
Further changes are planned for the coming season: The league will then officially be called the "Google Pixel Women's Bundesliga". Google promises to increase the visibility of female footballers in Germany with its upcoming advertising campaign.
However, a setback threatens in the coming month: Then the World Cup will take place in Australia and New Zealand (July 20 to August 20), but an agreement between FIFA and TV stations on who will broadcast the tournament has not yet taken place. There is a threat of a blackout.
