Paris Saint-Germain coach Christophe Galtier has been informed by Paris Saint-Germain of his departure at the end of the season, according to AFP. The technician will therefore not complete his contract, which was initially supposed to last two years. Several names are already circulating within the club for his succession.

Paris Saint-Germain coach Christophe Galtier was informed of his departure from the club on Tuesday, AFP learned from a source with knowledge of the negotiations. The technician, who will not carry out his second year of contract, was informed by the club's football advisor Luis Campos on Tuesday, detailed this source, confirming the information of several media. Negotiations on the terms of the Frenchman's departure are now underway, according to this source.

Nagelsmann in pole position

Several names are circulating in the media to replace him: former Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann would be a priority of the Qatari owners, with even the unlikely name of Thierry Henry as assistant. Nagelsmann (35) was surprisingly sacked in the middle of the season by the Bavarian club, despite a very honourable record. Asked Saturday about his future after the defeat against Clermont (3-2) on the 38th and last day of the season, Christophe Galtier had said he had an appointment with his leaders at the beginning of the week. Appointment that took place on Tuesday with Luis Campos.

Recruited last summer by the football advisor, with whom he had already worked at Lille, Galtier is paying for the poor second half of his team's season. Because after a very successful start, without the slightest defeat, the game of his PSG has frayed and the club has suffered, in all competitions, ten defeats in 2023, failing in particular in the knockout stages of the France Cup and, above all, the Champions League, the main objective.

The calendar pointed out by Galtier

Galtier has repeatedly pointed to the influence of the calendar, with the World Cup held in the middle of the season and after which his team did not play as well. "The right analysis, which you do not want to make, is that there was a PSG before the World Cup, and a PSG post-World Cup, with very important players who for some have not played for 16, 17 matches," he said on the evening of the coronation of champion, in Strasbourg on the 37th day, allusion in particular to Neymar, injured since February.
