Davis and Smolkin's transition
Diana Davis and Gleb Smolkin received approval from the Russian Figure Skating Federation to join the Georgian national team. This was announced by the head coach of the national team Elena Tchaikovsky.
"There was no application from Davis and Smolkin for the transition, but on May 22 we received a release from Georgia with a request to give them the opportunity to switch. We considered this issue, the bureau of the executive committee on May 25 decided to release them. A year and a half after the Olympic Games, they did not take part in any competitions, no money was spent on them. They did not come to Russia, so we let them go," TASS quoted the specialist as saying.
The first information about the possible upcoming transition was reported by American journalist David Lees, who had previously shared a number of insiders about the couple. Some of them were eventually confirmed - in particular, information about the wedding and the break with coach Igor Shpilband.
However, nothing has yet been decided on the transfer of Davis and Smolkin, despite formal approval from the FFKKR. According to some reports, much in this story will depend on the results of the Congress of the International Skating Union, where they are likely to discuss the issue of admitting Russians to tournaments in a neutral status. The meeting will be held at the end of the week. If domestic athletes receive permission to perform in the new season, then Davis and Smolkin will abandon plans for the transition.
However, the ISU can either postpone the decision to a later date or maintain the current suspension. And then the Georgian national team will receive bright and promising recruits.
According to the honored coach of the USSR Tatyana Tarasova, Davis and Smolkin will help the development of the sport in this friendly country.
"In Russia, they have not trained for a long time, and the state does not spend money on them. I can wish them a good journey, high results and future correct choices in their careers and lives," the specialist said.
In turn, Olympic champion Natalia Bestemyanova noted that athletes have the right to decide their own fate, especially in conditions of suspension from international competitions.
"And the loud phrases "We give" and the like ... Are they sitting on a chain? Are they serfs? Moreover, the girl was born in America," said the former figure skater.
Tuktamysheva's adventures in Mexico
Elizaveta Tuktamysheva, together with Alexei Mishin's group, conducts a series of master classes in Mexico. Athletes and coaches flew overseas at the end of May. Naturally, skaters spend time not only on the ice, sharing their skills with local athletes, but also get acquainted with the culture and sights. "It was just a brilliant idea! I haven't been to the zoo for so long that I got tremendous pleasure and a lot of emotions! After that, I bought myself a monkey on my head as a souvenir," Elizaveta shared in her Telegram channel, posting a corresponding photo with a white and pink plush animal on her head.
Guests from Russia, of course, got Mexican souvenirs, in particular traditional sombreros. In it, Tuktamysheva even went out on the ice during one of the classes. To the delight of local figure skating fans, the athlete even rode in tandem with Mishin, who also tried on a hat.

Shcherbakova's vacation in France
Meanwhile, Anna Shcherbakova is on vacation in France with her family. The Olympic champion visited the Alps, where she visited the Florent Amodio Figure Skating Academy. She was invited to the rink by the former European champion himself. The athletes met two years ago in Dubai during a vacation, and since then they have maintained friendly relations.
