A hair-cutting ceremony was held for former sumo yokozuna Tsururyu Oyakata, and many fans and officials regretted his retirement.
Tsururyu Oyakata, a native of Mongolia, was one of the sumo wrestlers who supported sumo from the end of the Heisei period to the Reiwa, having been promoted to yokozuna after the spring of Heisei 26 and winning six championships.
Currently, I am in charge of guiding the younger generation as a master with a room in the Mutsu room, and due to the influence of the new corona, I participated in the haircutting ceremony held at the Kokugikan in Ryogoku in Tokyo on the 6rd, more than two years after my retirement.
Before the ceremony, Tsururyu Oyakata took a sumo match with his eldest son, who is now six years old, as the last one to show the hall.
Then, he followed Kirishima of Shin-Ozeki, who was coaching in the room, and showed off his "Unryu-kata" entry into the arena just like his active days in accordance with the shouts of the fans.
At the hair-cutting ceremony that followed, about 1 people, including former yokozuna Hakuho Miyagino Oyakata and yokozuna Terunofuji, put scissors in their eyes, and tears spilled down their faces when their fathers took their turn to call out to them.
Then, while the fans cheered "Thank you Tsururyu", his mentor and former Ozeki Kirishima Mutsu Oyashima inserted scissors and cut off the thick busa, ending his 2-year career as a sumo wrestler.
Master Tsururyu recalled, "I felt like I was finally cut off, and when I heard the words of my father and various people, I couldn't help but burst into tears."
On top of that, he expressed his enthusiasm for the future, saying, "I am where I am because of sumo wrestling, and I want to develop sumo wrestlers who will carry the signboard in the future."
Shin-Ozeki Kirishima: "It was great because I kept my promise"
Kirishima of Shin-Ozeki was under the guidance of Tsururyu Oyakata in the Mutsu Room, and his goal was to be promoted to Ozeki by this hair-cutting ceremony.
Kirishima said, "I was looking forward to the haircutting ceremony because I was able to keep my promise from before, and it was great. Thank you for your hard work,'" he said."
