Denver's star center Nikola Jokic was the one who stood out the most with 27 points. He also managed a so-called triple double, that is, double digits in three of four statistical categories, with ten rebounds and 14 assists.

"The most important thing is to win," Jokic said after the match, who scored his ninth triple double in this year's playoffs.

Jokic also excelled by becoming the second player in the last 25 years to record ten assists before halftime during a finals match. LeBron James accomplished the feat in 2017.

"Trying to win at all costs"

"I'm trying to win the match at any cost," the Serbian giant continued.

Denver, playing its first-ever NBA Finals, thus takes the lead in the best-of-seven game series.

The second final game will be played in Denver on the night of Monday, Swedish time.

"They did their job on their home turf, but we're going to be ready and we're going to screw up some things," said Miami star Jimmy Butler, who was held down to 13 points.
