"Nybro Vikings is in mourning. One of the club's greatest of all time Björn 'Böna' Johansson has left us", writes his former club on its website.

Johansson's jersey has been hoisted to the ceiling in Victoriahallen where Nybro Vikings play their matches since 2014. He represented Södertälje SK during all his World Championship medals.

During his career, "Böna" represented Tre Kronor on several occasions, winning four World Championship bronze medals and one World Championship silver between 1972 and 1976.

Formed a back pair with Börje Salming in 1976

"Bean" Johansson formed a backup pair with Börje Salming in the Canada Cup in 1976 when the several minute long standing ovation took place.

"Börje went out on the ice and stayed for quite a long time and then I started to think 'what the hell is this?'. Then the crowd stood up and it came as a shock to us. Everyone was touched and there were people sitting in the substitutes' booth bellowing. I stood at the edge of the fence and waited. It was an amazing moment that I will never forget," Johansson told Aftonbladet.

"Then 14,000 people sat down again," Johansson said.

"Bean" ended his career after the 1982/83 season.

In addition, the Swedish Ice Hockey Association has awarded Johansson the honorary badge Stora grabbar.
