• Accident Sergio Rico, in serious condition after falling from a horse and being kicked by him in El Rocío

The family of Sergio Rico has issued a statement explaining the situation of the PSG goalkeeper after the accident he suffered on Sunday in El Rocío (Huelva). The Sevillian footballer suffers head traumaor after falling from a horse and being hit by the runaway animal.

Rico is admitted to the Virgen del Rocío Hospital, in Seville, and the medical team that attends him is waiting for his evolution in the next 48 hours.

In a statement provided on Sunday night by his representation company on behalf of his family, it is pointed out that last night Sergio Rico traveled "with permission of the club" from Strasbourg, where PSG secured the French league title, to Malaga and from there to El Rocío, and that, "after just over an hour and a half with his family and friends, he was on his way to the Pontifical Mass next to the hermitage when he suffered a misfortune because of a mule cart and a runaway horse that hit him.

"Sergio is in good hands, struggling to recover while receiving the best care from the entire medical team at Virgen del Rocío Hospital. We must act with prudence, especially in the next 48 hours," the letter said.

"We are waiting for results on his evolution, which we hope is favorable, and thus be able to communicate his improvement as soon as possible," adds the statement, which also appreciates "the signs of affection, messages and interest of all" those who are "asking about the state of Sergio". "Thank you for your support," he concludes.

The goalkeeper received several kicks from the animal in the head once on the ground, according to eyewitnesses to the 112 Emergency Service of Andalusia, in an event that, as indicated to EFE from that emergency service, occurred around 8:30 am on Sunday, when several notices were received of the fall of a horseman on Camino de Moguer street in the Almonteña village, where the Rociera pilgrimage is celebrated.

From the 112 notice was given to the Civil Guard and 061, and the footballer received a first assistance from the Health Emergency Center installed in the village, which transferred him by helicopter, in serious condition, to the Virgen del Rocío Hospital.

The goalkeeper, 29 years old and formed in the quarry of Sevilla, in whose first team he was from the 2014-15 season to the 2018-19, was this Saturday summoned with his team for the penultimate game of the French league, which played in Strasbourg, where he tied one and was proclaimed champion.

The goal, after his time at Sevilla, went through the English Fulham, then hired by PSG, which last season loaned him to Real Mallorca, to return to the Parisian team, in which he is a regular substitute.
