Reserve goalkeeper Sergio Rico of French football champions Paris Saint-Germain has suffered a traumatic brain injury in a riding accident. He had been kicked in the neck by a horse. The Spaniard is in a "serious condition", a PSG spokesman said on Sunday. The incident occurred in Rico's native Andalusia.

As reported by the local television station Canal Sur, Rico was taken by helicopter to the Virgen del Rocio hospital in Seville. Life support measures were initiated there. According to a report in the newspaper »Marca«, the 29-year-old is now stable.

Won the league title with PSG on Saturday

On Saturday, Rico had sat on the bench in the away game at Racing Strasbourg (1-1). With the draw, PSG had made the league title perfect. Rico's former club FC Sevilla wished the goalkeeper "a lot of strength and a speedy recovery" via Twitter.

The 29-year-old Rico had won the Europa League three times with Sevilla FC, and in 2020 he moved to PSG, where he only made sporadic appearances. In 2016, he had played one match for the Spanish national team and participated in the European Championship as the third goalkeeper of the squad.
