Just under three weeks ago, the Swedish Athletics Federation announced that pole vault star Armand Duplantis had given the go-ahead for Finnkampen 2023, his first international match against Finland since 2019.
Now comes the news that the two discus stars Daniel Ståhl and Simon Pettersson, who just like Duplantis won Olympic medals in 2021, will be on the Swedish team.
"Finnkampen means a lot to me. As everyone knows, I have a mother who is from Finland so it feels like I have support from both sides because I speak fluent Finnish and have good relations with Finland, not only through sports but also relatives and friends, says Ståhl in a press release.
Finnkampen takes place 2-3 September at Stockholm Stadium and is broadcast on SVT.
