The Southeast Asian Games are like the Olympics and the European Games, a major event with competitions in several different sports.

When the men's football tournament, which was played with U23 teams, was decided with a final between Indonesia and Thailand, there were chaotic scenes – with double giant brawls.

Ran over to the opposing bench

The first brawl began when Thailand, who earlier in the match were down 0–2, equalized in the seventh additional minute. Then the Thai bench celebrated by running over to the Indonesian ditto which was not appreciated.

Then, when Indonesia took the lead in extra time, the Indonesian bench retaliated by running over to the Thai side – creating an even bigger brawl.

Shall appoint a committee

In total, six players were sent off, and the Thai Football Association – whose team received five of the red cards – has now apologized.

"The Thai Football Association must apologise for the altercation on the sidelines," they said in a statement, adding that they would "appoint a committee to investigate the people involved as soon as possible, and then decide how to deal with this appropriately."

Indonesia won the match in Cambodia 5–2.
