In Fukushima Town, Hokkaido, where the two yokozuna were born, a sumo tournament in which only women participated was held for the first time in four years, and heated battles were fought with great enthusiasm.

In Fukushima Town, which gave birth to two yokozuna, Chiyonoyama and Chiyonofuji, in order to liven up the town with sumo, a women-only sumo tournament is held every year on Mother's Day.

This year's tournament, which was held for the first time in four years due to the influence of the new coronavirus, was attended by a total of 4 female sumo wrestlers from Tokyo, Kagoshima and other parts of Japan.

The wrestling was held in the arena set up in the shrine grounds, and instead of "turning," the participants wore white obi around their waists and went up to the ring to demonstrate powerful thrusts and bold throwing techniques, and the venue was excited by their spirited sumo wrestling.

Kumiko Kato, an office worker from Akita who participated under the name "Kurotaromaru," won the tournament for the first time and won the title of "yokozuna".

Mr. Kato said, "I was able to take sumo for the first time in a long time because it was the first time in four years, and I never thought I would be able to win the championship, so I am very happy."
