Poland's Iga Swiatek retains her place as world No. 1 on Monday in the WTA rankings despite losing in the final in Madrid to Aryna Sabalenka. France's Caroline Garcia has regained the number 4 spot in the world.

Poland's Iga Swiatek retains the lead in the WTA rankings released Monday with a reduced lead over Belarus' Aryna Sabalenka, while French No. 1 Caroline Garcia recovers fourth place in the world. The 21-year-old Pole, defeated for the first time on clay by Sabalenka in Saturday's final in Madrid, now has only 1744 points more than the 25-year-old Belarusian, compared to 2084 last week.

If the American Jessica Pegula remains in third place in the world, the Tunisian Ons Jabeur, forfeit on injury in Madrid, falls three ranks, to the 7th place. Caroline Garcia, 4th, the American Coco Gauff, 5th, and the Kazakh Elena Rybakina, 6th, take the opportunity to each glean a position in the world hierarchy.
