Former Paris Saint-Germain player Bruno Rodriguez has revealed the ugly face of the football world, a year and a half after undergoing surgery in which his right leg was amputated.

Rodriguez confirmed in an interview with the French newspaper "Le Parisien" that he did not receive any moral support from the clubs he played for or even the French Federation throughout this period, and warned the players of the risks of using painkiller injections.

"No one has contacted me even if by phone, neither from the French Federation nor from the league, I am not surprised by the lack of solidarity because the football environment is inhumane, frankly I was expecting it," he said.

"I know a lot of players who are still with two legs, but they have constant pain."

"Only Paris Saint-Germain cared about me during the recovery process and invited me to attend the team's match against Ajaccio on May 13, it would be a pleasure to touch the grass again even with one leg."

On the dangers of excessive use of painkiller injections, Roriguez said: "I regret that it was not explained to me at the time, and what its long-term consequences are, all I was thinking about was always playing."

"Professional and amateur players alike should know that painkiller injections cause bone and cartilage wear," he explained.

Rodriguez suffered from psychological crises and became depressed, and received psychological treatment to overcome this difficult period.

"I am still following my case with a psychiatrist, I suffered from moments of severe depression, and without my wife and loved ones I would not have recovered," the 50-year-old Frenchman admitted, although his mother died shortly after the operation.

According to the French newspaper, Bruno Rodriguez is classified as 80% disabled, during his play he suffered many ankle injuries, which he treated with painkillers to relieve pain.

Rodriguer lives on a monthly salary of 900 euros and two months ago received a prosthetic limb that helps him walk and move without a crutch.

RodrĂguez's professional career lasted 14 years (1993-2005), during which he played for many French clubs, most notably Paris Saint-Germain, Lens and Ajaccio, and had two experiences abroad with Rayo Vallecano and Bradford.

With all clubs, RodrĂguez made 283 appearances, scoring 80 goals and providing 6 assists.
