Rivaldo, the retired Brazilian star and former player of Barcelona, advised his compatriot Roberto Firmino, Liverpool striker, if he wants to move to the "Catalan" club in the next summer transfer market.

Firmino's name has been linked with a departure to Barcelona after the end of the current season 2022-2023, especially since his contract with Liverpool expires on June 30, 2023.

The 31-year-old Firmino has suffered from a lack of minutes this season, especially since the resumption of Premier League matches after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Rivaldo believes Firmino should look for another team to ensure he can play as many minutes as possible, rather than moving to Barcelona.

Rivaldo said in remarks highlighted by the British newspaper "Mirror", "There have been rumors over the past few days that Barcelona is looking to sign Firmino, whose contract with Liverpool expires in the summer."

"Following in the footsteps of other Brazilian players, I believe Firmino will fulfill his dream of playing for Barcelona, however, he must first know his role in the team."

The Brazilian star, who won the 2002 World Cup with samba, explained, "Xavi (Barcelona coach) always plays with one striker (Robert Lewandowski), and the arrival of Firmino may change his strategy, but it will most likely mean that he will be a player on the bench. Firmino will only play a few minutes, that's why I think he has to balance his decisions."

"There is no doubt that playing for Barcelona is a dream, but at this late stage of his career he may need to look for another club that gives him a greater guarantee of playing for more minutes, so if he reaches an agreement with Barcelona, I hope he talks to Xavi first to understand his role in the team."

The "Mirror" confirms that Liverpool offered an extension to Firmino, but the Brazilian refused to do so, which is something respected by German coach Jürgen Klopp "Reds".

Understand there’s nothing agreed or signed between Roberto Firmino and Barcelona at this stage. 🇧🇷 #FCB

It’s not even advanced deal — just name discussed internally. Barça priorities are Iñigo, Gündogan, of course Messi.

Firmino joined Liverpool in July 2015 from Hoffenheim and has since made 360 appearances in all competitions, scoring 109 goals and providing 79 assists.

He has also won seven titles: the Premier League, the League Cup, the FA Cup, the Community Shield (English Super Cup), the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup.

Rivaldo previously played for Barcelona between 1997 and 2002, and won with the "Blaugrana" four titles: La Liga (2), the Copa del Rey, and the European Super Cup.
