The All Japan Women's Championships were held to determine the best women's judo Japan without discrimination in weight, and Mami Umeki, who represented the 78 kg class at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, won the championship for the first time.

The All Japan Women's Judo Championships Japan were held at the Yokohama Budokan in Yokohama City on 23 September.

The 78-year-old Umeki, who represented the 28-kilogram class at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, advanced from the first round with his favorite sleeping technique and faced Hikaru Kodama, who finished third last year, in the final.

In the match, he suddenly lost the effectiveness of Ouchi Kari about 1 seconds into the match, but after that, he took the upper hand in the kumite battle and continued to set up his techniques, and Kodama gradually brought it to his own pace as he received two instructions.

In the end, we didn't miss the place where the opponent collapsed, and we held it back and won the match.

Umeki won the championship for the first time in his fifth appearance.

Umeki said, "I'm honestly happy, we scored a point first, but we had time, so we were confident that if we attacked without rushing and not rushing, we could get it back. It's a tough situation ahead of next year's Paris Olympics, but if there is even a little chance, we will hold on and prepare ourselves to compete on the world stage."

Sara Asahina, who is the world champion in the women's over 3-kilogram class, was aiming for her second Japan but lost to Yukiko Uno in the third round.

In addition, Teru Sone, who has been selected to represent the country in the class over 30 kg at the World Championships next month, did not participate.
