"It's obviously tragic and something you don't want to hear. Our thoughts are with the family, close friends and everyone around Craig of course," Kruse said of the news that Craig Breen had died.

SVT Sport's motor expert puts into words what the 33-year-old has meant to the rally world.

"When I think of Craig Breen, I think of the Swedish rally he drove in Umeå a few months ago. He came to the finish line after a stretch, which somewhere was a turning point for Breen after a difficult last year, says Kruse and continues:

"There he showed how emotional he was. He almost started crying. He was so passionate about the sport and he has meant so much with the way he is to rally sport. Breen was a great driver, a role model and the rally world has lost a great person.

Breen's fatal accident occurred during a test before Croatia's World Rally Championship. Jonas Kruse believes that it is unusual for serious accidents to occur in rallying.

"We are actually quite spared when it comes to fatal accidents in rallying. It's been quite some time since anything happened. The cars are incredibly safe, especially the new cars. In general, safety is high," he says, adding:

"But of course it's high speeds. Asphalt is special when it goes fast, when the grip releases. Then things can happen quickly.
