The new FIFA ranking has been published and the France is doing well. Thanks to their recent results, Didier Deschamps' men have managed to grab a place and are now in second position. Argentina takes the place of world number 1.

Lionel Messi's Argentina took first place in the FIFA world rankings, a first in six years, ahead of France and Brazil, according to the edition unveiled Thursday. The world champions Argentina, crowned on December 18 in Doha, regain the lead of the ranking thanks to their friendly victories against Panama (2-0) and Curaçao (7-0). They had not reached this position for more than six years.

The Albiceleste takes the place of Brazil, the great regional rival, beaten 2-1 by Morocco on March 25 in Tangier. The Seleçao slips on the third step of the podium. World Cup finalists France moved up a place to second place after victories over the Netherlands (4-0) and the Republic of Ireland (1-0) in Euro 2024 qualifying.

An important ranking for the 2026 World Cup

The FIFA ranking is scrutinized by the nations since it is used to determine the hats of the draw of the groups of the 2026 World Cup which will take place in three countries at the same time: the United States, Mexico and Canada. This ranking is calculated through a system of points distributed according to the victories and defeats of the nations, as well as the importance of the opponent played.
