"College record in the 100-meter hurdles. From 12.71 to 12.36. Never give up on your dreams and try to work towards them," the 22-year-old wrote on Instagram. She beat Brianna McNeal's (former Rollins) previous record of 12.39 from 2013.

Seeing the time, Russell danced, showing heart signs. The wind was a maximum of 2.0 meters/second in the back and the time is the eighth best in the United States of all time.

"It was cool to see the time, but after my great indoor season, it wasn't too surprising to me," the Kentucky runner said in an interview with Flo Track of the Texas Relays in Austin in front of packed stands.

She hopes to cut additional time during the season. Last year, 12.36 had given a sixth place on the world best list.

Will run the 400 meter hurdles this summer

"My personal best was 12.71 and now I'm running 12.36. Hopefully I can run some races this summer at 12.20-something," said Russell, who is big on social media.

She has a personal record in the 400-meter hurdles of 55.02 and will run some races at that distance this summer. Although the 100 m hurdles will be the main task.

The college record in the 400-meter hurdles, incidentally, is held by Sydney McLaughlin, who also competed for the University of Kentucky, of 52.75 from 2018.

Olympic bronze medalist Gabby Thomas won the 200 metres in 22.46.

In discus, Valarie Allman started the outdoor season by winning in 67.90.
