• Negreira case UEFA will decide the future of Barça in 45 days: these are the sanctions it faces even if it has expired in Spain

LaLiga, concerned about the reputational crisis that the 'Negreira case' may be assuming for Spanish football, has gone a step further and will consider "the future of the provision of services" of referees in an Extraordinary Assembly that has convened for next Wednesday, April 19. That is, the entity chaired by Javier Tebas is willing to modify the current panorama of Spanish arbitration.

In the convocation of that Assembly, which has been sent to the clubs on Tuesday morning, LaLiga cites the presidents for that day at 11.00 am. There are five items on the agenda, and the most striking is the fourth, which reads: "Examination of the arbitration situation. Future of service delivery. Examination of the case of F. C. Barcelona-Negreira". Under that phrase ("examination of the arbitration situation") there is room for a whole battery of measures, and LaLiga sources do not dare to rule out any at this time.

The origins and details of the Negreira Case: "I think it comes from the time of Núñez, but he was the smartest, he left no trace"

Today, the referees, their operation, depend fundamentally on the Spanish Federation. Only in the appointments of each day does LaLiga have a voice, since it designates one of the three members of the Designation Committee that performs that function. However, it is the clubs that pay the salaries of the referees, who can charge up to 300,000 euros per year depending on the matches they referee on the green or in the VAR room.

In recent years, the idea of changing the arbitration system, and making them depend directly on LaLiga, has flown over Spanish football on several occasions, and it could be that now the body that presides over Tebas wants to take that step after the scandal that has meant the 'Negreira case'.

It will be the fundamental point of that Extraordinary Assembly convened by surprise this Tuesday, and where a modification of the Collective Agreement for the activity of professional football will also be discussed. A day earlier, on the 18th, LaLiga has summoned all its members for a previous briefing. There they will explain in more detail the situation of all the points to be discussed.
