30-year-old Lovisa Modig, who in 2021 took second place in the relay at the World Cup in Lahti, ended her career as a cross-country skier this weekend.

The last effort was yesterday's three-mile at the Swedish Championships in Kalix, where it was a fifth place in the three-mile.

Swedish Championship silver last year

But the fact that the skiing career is over does not mean that the elite sports career. The three-time Swedish champion in cross-country skiing is just changing track – and is now focusing on athletics.

Modig, who last year took silver in the 10,000 meters and was third in both the Tjejmilen and the Swedish Athletics Championships 5,000 meters, will now make an elite investment in running, she tells local newspapers in Norrbotten.

"Yes, I've never even thought about investing in athletics before. But now (last summer) it was like, 'Damn, maybe this is something I've missed out on,'" she says.

"Above all, it is in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters that I will focus on. I feel that I am not a marathon person, even though I would like to run well at Lidingöloppet.

And she does not rule out that she can represent Sweden in Finnkampen.

"Yes, it's the right distances.
