Just ten days before facing Real Madrid in the quarterfinals of the Champions League, Graham Potter is already history at Chelsea. The 0-2 defeat last Saturday against Unai Emery's Aston Villa, as well as the two-way draw against an Everton that flirts with relegation, have been unbearable for the board and a crowd that this weekend booed the team and asked for its head.

His deputy, Catalan Bruno Saltor, will take charge of the team on an interim basis, becoming the sixth Spanish coach in the Premier League along with Guardiola at City, Arteta at Arsenal, Emery at Aston Villa, Lopetegui at Wolves and Javi Gracia at Leeds.

Saltor played as a right back in Espanyol, Nàstic, Lleida, Almería and Valencia, until he made the leap to Brighton, where after hanging up his boots just four years ago, he began to train as a coach next to Potter.

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly shelled out €20 million last September to acquire Potter's services, making him the most expensive manager in history. To do this, he had to fire Thomas Tuchel, now coach of Bayern Munich, after six league games, and after losing 1-0 to Dinamo Zagreb in the first game of the Champions League this season.

His dismissal, like now that of Potter, shows the lack of patience of a Boehly in a hurry for the bad situation of the team in the Premier League. Tuchel left the team sixth in the table, and at the moment they are eleventh, light years away from finishing the league in the top four. In the 31 games that Potter has managed, his record could not be more disappointing. He only managed to win 12, scored 33 goals and conceded 31.

On Tuesday Saltor will debut against Liverpool at home, on Saturday he will visit some needy Wolves, and next week he will play the first leg of the quarterfinals of the Champions League against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu, in what is already not only the most important game of this season, but also of the next, given the difficulty of maintaining many of its figures or attracting new ones in case of not entering Europe.

At the moment the club is trying to get the services of the winter signing Joao Felix, and turn him into the standard of the club. And all that after leaving 611 million in players this season.

"Graham has agreed to collaborate with the club to facilitate a smooth transition. In his time at the club, Graham has taken us to the quarterfinals of the Champions League, where we will face Real Madrid (...) Along with our incredible fans, we will all support Bruno and the team as we focus on the rest of the season. We have 10 Premier League games left and a Champions League quarter-final to go. We will put all our effort and commitment into each of those games so that we can finish the season in style," Chelsea said in a press release.
