The French Football Federation announced the appointment of recently resigned Saudi national team coach Hervé Renard as coach of the French women's team, replacing coach Corinne Diacre.

Frenchman Renard resigned from coaching the Saudi men's team last Tuesday, after helping them beat Argentina in the group stage of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, but failed to qualify for the knockout stages of the World Cup.

"After the extraordinary meeting of the executive committee this evening, the French federation is pleased to announce the appointment of Hervé Renard as technical director of the France women's team until August 2024," the French federation said on its official website on Thursday.

The federation added that Renard will lead the French team at the 2023 Women's World Cup scheduled in Australia and New Zealand from July 20 to August 20, as well as at the Paris 2024 Olympics scheduled from July 25 to August 2024, <>.

The French federation said it would hold a press conference at its headquarters on Friday to formally introduce Renard to the media, in the presence of Philippe Diallo, interim president of the federation.

Renard will announce the women's squad for the friendlies against Colombia and Canada on April 7 and 11, respectively.

The French federation sacked Diaker in March after captain Wendy Renard said she would not play in the World Cup if the coach continued in her position.

France are fifth in the women's world rankings and are looking to win the World Cup for the first time in their history.
