Morocco's national football team scored a historic 2-1 victory over Brazil during a friendly match held in Tangier on Sunday morning, in the first appearance of the Atlas Lions since their historic achievement of qualifying for the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Moroccan team, led by coach Walid Regraki, put in a distinguished show, culminating in a deserved victory over Brazil, thanks to a brace from Sofiane Boufal and substitute Abdelhamid Saberi, while Casemiro scored the only goal for the visitors.

It was the first victory for an Arab team over the five-time world champions, and came after Morocco's previous defeats to Brazil, most recently in the 1998 World Cup.

Brazil went into the match under caretaker coach Ramon Menezes, who took charge following Tite's departure after being knocked out in the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup against Croatia.

Sofiane Boufal opened the scoring in the 29th minute after a quick counter-attack to inflamed the enthusiasm of some 60,<> fans gathered at the Grand Stadium in Tangier.

In the second half, Brazil equalized after a long-range shot by captain Casemiro escaped goalkeeper Yassine Bono and completed its way to the net in the 67th minute.

Sabri snatched Morocco's winning goal in the 79th minute with a powerful shot after a pass from the left flank and a dribble inside the Brazilian penalty area.
