The London club Tottenham announced in a statement on Sunday evening that it had amicably separated from its coach Antonio Conte. In question, the poor results of the Italian coach like the elimination of the club in the knockout stages of the Champions League against AC Milan.

English football club Tottenham announced Sunday the departure of its Italian coach Antonio Conte as part of a "mutual agreement", a divorce that has become inevitable after several months of internal tensions. Arrived in November 2021 at the London club, Conte was in the hot seat after the elimination in the eighth final of the Champions League and after openly criticizing his players following a draw (3-3) against the red lantern Southampton before the international break.

He will be replaced by his assistant, Cristian Stellini, who has been appointed until the end of the season. Tottenham are currently fourth in the Premier League but only two points ahead of 5th-placed Newcastle, who have two games less in the race for Champions League qualification.

"Battle for the Champions League"

"We have ten Premier League games left and we have a battle for a place in the Champions League," Spurs chairman Daniel Levy said in a statement. "We have to pull ourselves together. Everyone has to step up (their efforts) to ensure the best outcome for our club and our loyal and incredible supporters," he added.

Cristian Stellini had already replaced his boss on the bench when the 53-year-old coach was recovering from gallbladder surgery. Former Tottenham midfielder Ryan Mason, who was briefly in charge of Spurs in 2021, will be Stellini's new assistant, the club said.
