Swedish star Zlatan Ibrahimovic became the second oldest player to play a European Championship qualifying match, and this came during his country's loss to hosts Belgium by three goals to none.

Sweden coach Yanni Andersson pushed – on Friday – Milan Italian striker aged 41 years and 172 days, in the 73rd minute in place of Newcastle striker Alexander Isaac.

Zlatan, born on October 3, 1981, was initially considered the oldest player to play a match in the continental qualifiers, but Gibraltar's Lee Cacharu, born on September 29, 1981, broke the record during his country's match against Greece on Friday, at 41 years and 176 days.

But the Sultan is still ahead of the former record holder of Italian goalkeeper Dino Zoff, who played against Sweden on May 29, 1983 at the age of 41 years, 3 months and one day.

Last week, Zlatan became the oldest player to score a goal in Serie A.

The former Paris Saint-Germain star insisted at the weekend that he wanted to play the Euro 2024 finals in Germany, if his country qualifies, and he would then be 42 years old, becoming the oldest player to play in the finals.
