Karl-Erik Nilsson had been chairman of the Swedish Football Association since 2012. Now the elite clubs and districts have voted Reinfeldt as the new chairman for the next two years.

"It's been a long process. You could say solid. I would particularly like to address Lars-Christer Olsson, who received great support here today. I would like to extend my respect to the work that Olsson has done for Swedish and international football, says Reinfeldt at the annual meeting.

Reinfeldt stood against Lars-Christer Olsson, who had previously been secretary general of the European football association Uefa and Swedish Elite Football. Olsson received 111 of the 255 votes.

There was great interest in the annual meeting in Solna with about 450 people present.

The outgoing chairman, Karl-Erik Nilsson, wished his successor good luck in his long speech at the beginning of the meeting.

" I wish whoever is elected the best of luck. Now we close ranks and give him full backing. Thank you for everything, says Nilsson.
