UEFA, the governing body of European football, announced on Thursday the opening of an investigation into Barcelona for the 'Negreira case'. The entity has commissioned its inspectors of 'Ethics and Discipline' a file to settle "the possible violence of the UEFA regulations" by the Barça club.
In its brief statement, UEFA refers to article 31.4 of its disciplinary regulations to begin investigating Barça. That article gives the option to the president, the general secretary or the UEFA Executive Committee to commission an investigation if they deem it appropriate and specifies that this can be "with other bodies of UEFA or outside UEFA".
