The International Athletics Federation (World Athletics) agreed Thursday that trans athletes will not be able to compete in the female category. The president of the body, Sebastian Coe, declared that from March 31 and for at least one year no athlete who has gone through male puberty will be allowed to participate in competitions that score for the world ranking.

He added that a working group will be created to further investigate transgender eligibility guidelines. "We're not going to say no forever," Coe said.

World Athletics held a consultation period with all stakeholders in the first two months of this year, including National Federations, the Global Athletics Coaches Academy, the Athletes' Commission and the International Olympic Committee (IOC), as well as human rights and transgender representative groups.
