"Really the basis for me when I chose Newcastle was the sporting, and that's what I value most when I make a club choice. Then what the situation looks like in different countries is not for me to answer," he said.

He believes that it can sometimes be a bit unreasonable as a footballer to speak out about situations that do not apply to football, as a result of, for example, club owners.
