Sudanese club Al Hilal announced on Tuesday that it has decided to address the Confederation of African Football (CAF) regarding what it described as "threats issued by the fans of the Egyptian Al-Ahly" ahead of an upcoming confrontation between the two teams in Cairo in the final round of the group stage of the African Champions League.

The club said – in a statement on its Facebook page – that "the Council decided to address CAF through the Secretary-General of the club and attach all the videos issued by the fans of Ahli against Al-Hilal, which calls for the broadcast and dissemination of hate speech."

"The club urges the Confederation to take all measures that preserve and ensure the safety of the Crescent mission and its fans from arrival in Cairo until departure," he added.

Al Hilal beat Al Ahli 1-<> when they hosted them earlier in the group stage.

After the match, Al-Ahli filed a complaint about being subjected to "repeated abuses" by Al-Hilal Club and its fans, saying that its host "did not commit to holding the match without the presence of fans due to the lack of safety conditions in the stadium and allowed more than a thousand fans to attend the match."

Al-Ahli accused a member of the medical staff of Al-Hilal of "assaulting defender Mohamed Abdel Moneim with one of the medical tools", adding that this person "continued on the bench despite being expelled from the referee, and tried to assault the goalkeeper and captain of Al-Ahly Mohamed Al-Shennawi after the end of the match".

Members of the home club's administrative staff were also accused of "beating (substitute goalkeeper) Ali Lotfy and (midfielder) Hamdi Fathi."

Al Ahli needs to win 1-<> or by two goals to accompany South Africa's Sundowns and qualify for the quarter-finals, while a draw will be enough for Al Hilal to ensure passage to the next round.

Sundowns lead the group with 11 points and are one point ahead of Al Hilal, second in the standings. Al Ahly are in third place with 7 points, while Cameroon's Coton Sport (cotton) is in last place without points.
