Russian world champions every year between 2001 and 2021 are the result in ice racing. But at the last two world championships, the Russian drivers have been suspended – which instead led to Swedish victories.

Last year, Martin Haarahiltunen had to chase, and managed to secure the victory in the final stages.

This year – then the 32-year-old was superior from the start. On Saturday, he won six of six heats. And on Sunday, he didn't want to be worse. Before the final heat, it was clear that a second place was enough for gold, but Haarahiltunen took another victory and the gold was defended.

Niclas Svensson, who belongs to the same club as Haarahiltunen, finished fifth. Instead, the Swede had to share the podium with Franz Zorn and Harald Simon, both from Austria.
