World number one Fan Zhendong, who had not dropped a set in Singapore, won 11-6.5-11.8-11.12-10.11-6.13-11.

At 10-9 in the sixth set, Möregårdh had a set ball but knocked out a backhand. He saved a match ball at 10-11 and hit another backhand out on the second match ball and the match was over.

Möregårdh sighed resignedly when it was over.

"It was easier in the first set against what I had expected but my opponent came back strong and it was a long exciting match," says Fan Zhendong via interpreter from the pitch before signing autographs.

There are many Chinese fans who follow the competition in Singapore which is the most moneyed on the tour with a total of 21 million crowns to distribute in all classes.

"We didn't think it would be so even and the entertainment value was fantastic," the commentators say in Viaplay's broadcast.
