After Brynäs lost several leading players last year, Anna Meixner has taken on a bigger role this year – and lifted herself considerably.

The 28-year-old, who is in his third season in Brynäs, has scored goals in a successful pairing with radar partner Lara Stalder.

She was recently awarded the Golden Helmet, as the league's MVP of the year. In addition to the goals, Meixner's quickness stands out.

"I had a very tough coach growing up when I played with the guys. He made me skate a lot and focus on a lot of details. In those days I hated him, I hated him so much. But now I'm grateful he pushed me and my limits so hard.

"Tough as a little girl"

How much ski shoe training was there?

"It's always tough to come as a little girl and play with the boys. I always think I put in some extra work to be able to compete with the guys.

How much advantage do you have from your speed?

- I can use it from time to time, but that's not all. I used to be able to take the puck and drive solo across the ice but that's not the case in Sweden and I've had to use and develop other skills to be good enough.

Austria is not a great ice hockey nation and the national team, of which Meixner is captain, has not managed to qualify for the Olympics or World Championships at any time.

She is inspired by Swedish hockey.

"We're more of a ski nation. But I hope things change and improve, when I see what it's like here. If I look at Gävle, I don't even know how many rinks there are in this region, it's crazy for me to come from a small place where there is not even the opportunity to train on ice in the summers.

"28 is the new 18"

She enjoys the fact that things have gone so well for her this season.

- 28 is the new 18, haha. no but it's definitely the most fun season so far. But we haven't won anything yet. I hope I'm happiest after the season.

The final series between Brynäs and Luleå begins tonight. The match will be broadcast on SVT.
