Regarding the 2026 Soccer World Cup, which will be expanded from 32 to 48 teams, FIFA has decided to divide the first league into 12 groups of 4 teams each.

For the first time in history, the 2026 World Cup will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, and the quota will be expanded from 32 to 48.

The tournament was originally planned to consist of 16 groups of three teams each, with the top two teams advancing to the knockout stages. In December last year, Infantino hinted at the possibility of revising the system.

At the FIFA Council meeting held in Rwanda on the 14th, it was proposed to change the format of the primary league to 12 groups of four teams each, and it was unanimously approved.

The final tournament will consist of 32 teams, with the top 2 teams from each group and the top 8 teams from the 3rd place teams advancing to the finals.

The final will be held on July 19th, but we will be considering the schedule of the tournament in the future, taking into account the increase in the number of games.
