The "Lake Biwa Marathon," which runs 42.195 kilometers along Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture, was held for the first time, with more than 6,300 runners aiming for the finish line.

The “Lake Biwa Marathon” is a citizen marathon newly held this year as a successor to the “Lake Biwa Mainichi Marathon”, which was held last year, and more than 6,300 people participated from all over the country.

At the Ojiyama Athletic Stadium in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture, which was the starting venue, Kengo Suzuki, who set a new Japanese record and won the final race of the Lake Biwa Mainichi Marathon, said, I am happy to be reborn. Please enjoy running through Lake Biwa,” he encouraged the participants.

After that, the runners all started at the same time with the signal gun, went north along the western shore of Lake Biwa, and challenged the 42.195 km full marathon to the finish near the Lake Biwa Museum in Kusatsu City.

Shiga Prefecture on the 12th was blessed with mild weather, making it a perfect day for the marathon, and the participating runners ran through the shores of Lake Biwa while sweating.

A man in his 30s who participated from Miyazaki Prefecture said, "I participated in Lake Biwa because I wanted to run as a marathon runner. I was able to run comfortably while looking at Lake Biwa."
