The American was superior in the first run by over a second to almost the entire field, except for Anna Swenn Larsson and Wendy Holdener.

But none of the contenders, despite riding really well, could handle Shiffrin, who won outright.

Anna Swenn Larsson finished second behind Holdener and came third in Åre after Shiffrin won.

Hanna Aronsson Elfman rode very well but faltered towards the end of the race and missed out on a possible first podium place.

17-year-old fastest of all

Four Swedes were further from the second run, where both Swenn Larsson and Aronsson Elfman had excellent starting positions for podium places.

But the rider who was happiest after the first ride was 17-year-old Cornelia Öhlund.

Finished as 18th fastest and 20th when everyone had finished.

When she then crossed the finish line with the fastest time in the second race, it was clear that she would improve on her personal best 22nd place in the World Cup.

Öhlund rode the fastest of all in the second race and picked up ten places.

Öhlund came in a sensational tenth place and Sara Hector came in 13th place.
