Philippe Troussier, who led the Japanese national team at the 2002 World Cup in Japan and Korea, was appointed as the head coach of the Vietnam national football team.

Mr. Troussier is 67 years old from France.

In 1998 he was appointed head coach of the Japanese national team and also coached the Olympic generation team.



In 2000, he led the team to the best 8 at the Sydney Olympics, and at the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea, he spread the tactic of quickly building an attack after stealing the ball in a defensive formation called "flat three" lined up with three defenders. It was the first time in the tournament that they advanced to the finals.

In 2020, he was selected for the "Japan Football Hall of Fame", which is awarded to those who have greatly contributed to the development of the Japanese football world.



Troussier's contract as head coach of the Vietnam national team will run until the end of the 2026 World Cup, and he will also manage the under-23 side.
