In the visually impaired class of the Osaka Marathon, Shinya Wada, who won two medals in track events at the Tokyo Paralympics, set a time of 2:24:29 in the visually impaired class, faster than his own world record. bottom.

Since last year, when the Osaka Marathon was merged with the Lake Biwa Mainichi Marathon, which has been held as a representative selection race for the Olympics, it has become a competition in which the top male athletes in Japan participate, and classes for the visually impaired have also been held.

Wada completed the 42.195km course around Osaka City with his escort runner and finished 107th overall.

His time was 2 hours, 24 minutes and 29 seconds, nearly two minutes faster than the world record in the visually impaired class that he set at last year's Beppu-Oita Mainichi Marathon.

Wada is 45 years old from Higashi-Osaka City, Osaka.

When he was about 17, he started para athletics before the London Paralympics when a retinal disease reduced his vision.

At the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, which was his third consecutive appearance, he broke his own Asian record in the men's 1500m and won a silver medal in the 5000m and a bronze medal in the 5000m.

Mr. Wada said, "I'm glad I was able to run faster than I was aiming for. I think the road to the Paris Paralympics has opened."
