Former
Russian figure skater Roman Kostomarov
, Olympic champion at the Turin 2006 Winter Games, is between life and death after suffering two strokes, according to information from the
Ria Novosti
agency .
"He has had a second hemorrhage. His condition is serious," he says, citing close sources.
The 46-year-old athlete's state of health would have worsened in recent days.
Kostomarov was hospitalized on January 10 after complaining of weakness and chest pain.
He was diagnosed with sepsis and pneumonia, admitted to intensive care, and put on a ventilator

newspaper reported that his feet had to be amputated and he reportedly lost some fingers.
Kostomarov had one foot amputated and part of the heel of the other had to be removed.
Born in Moscow, Kostomarov started skating at the age of nine.
Forming a couple with
Tatiana Navka,
he won, in addition to Olympic gold, two world championships (2004 and 2005) and three European champion titles (2004, 2005 and 2006).
