As at the ATP tournament in Rotterdam last week, Richard Gasquet was taken out by the Swiss Stan Wawrinka (4-6, 7-5, 6-2) on Wednesday.

This match marked the sixth opposition between the two veterans.

They are now tied, three wins each.

The day was marked by the victory of the prodigy Arthur Fils.

Swiss tennis player Stan Wawrinka (105th in the world) dominated Richard Gasquet (43rd) 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 in the second round of the ATP 250 tournament in Marseille on Wednesday evening, after 2h25 of play. It was the second meeting between the two players in a week, the Swiss having already beaten the French number 1 at the same stage of the competition at the Rotterdam tournament.

The two veterans of the ATP played against each other for the sixth time, and are now tied at 3 wins each.

Richard Gasquet, however, gave the winner of Roland-Garros 2015 a hard time after a good fight lasting more than two hours.

The Swiss in quarters

Gasquet (36) got off to the best start, leading 6-4 4-2.

But Wawrinka (37), who was able to rely on the support of part of the public at the Palais des Sports in Marseille, turned the match in his favor.

The Swiss with three Grand Slam titles (Australia 2014, Roland-Garros 2015 and US Open 2016) will face the winner of the match between Frenchman Arthur Fils (118th) and Italian Jannik Sinner (12th) in the quarter-finals.
