At the end of January, Anton Persson announced that the season was over.

There would be no WC for the 27-year-old, who finished 41st in the sprint qualifying.

This after he has been driving with a torn cruciate ligament since last summer.

On Instagram, Persson posted a picture of him giving a thumbs up, along with the text line "back in a week".

"In July I crashed on roller skis and tore the cruciate ligament in my knee.

Trained as usual and five days later I ran classic intervals in Tosseberg without knowing it, but it was damn scary on the slippery parts", he writes and continues:

"Now it will be an intense period"

"A few days after the injury was diagnosed, I got some really nice results on the roller skis together with good training, which gave hope that it would be possible to drive as usual towards the winter."

That was not the case.

Instead, Persson underwent surgery, and now rehab awaits the cross-country skier.

"However, it was a bit more demanding with snow as a base and after several setbacks and consequential injuries as well as a constant nibbling of anti-inflammatory and painkillers, surgery was the only way out.

Now there will be an intensive period of rehab and trying to fill the days with something meaningful (hints, thanks) before you can hopefully start the journey back to being on skis," he writes.
