17 league rounds and 51 points remain before Serie A can be summed up.

One thing is already clear.

Reigning champions Milan's hopes of defending the title look impossible.

The loss in the "Derby della Madonnina" against Inter was the club's fifth straight league game without a win - and now the distance to league leader Napoli is a full 18 points.

Milan - with Zlatan Ibrahimovic still on the injury list - did not get the game going against Inter.

The better was the city rival.

And the winning goal was a fine performance by Lautaro Martinez, the striker who was part of Argentina's golden team in the Qatar World Cup.

Hakan Calhanoglu hit the corner hard, curled in towards the far post.

25-year-old Martinez changed running direction, took a step out and put his head there.

The ball slipped in at Milan goalkeeper Ciprian Tatarusanu's front post in the 34th minute.

The Argentine's twelfth league goal of the season was enough for Inter, who are thus second on 43 points.

Napoli tops at 56.

Milan is sixth on 38.
