The young Tricolor Léo Bisiaux, leader of the World Cup and reigning European champion, became junior world cyclo-cross champion on Sunday.

At not even 18, the Frenchman assumed his favorite status to win eleven seconds ahead of the Dutchman Senna Remijn.

Frenchman Léo Bisiaux became world junior cyclo-cross champion (under 19) by beating Dutchman Senna Remijn and Belgian Yordi Corsus on Sunday in Hoogerheide (Netherlands), after a race disputed in front of several tens of thousands of spectators.

Leader of the World Cup, European champion in November in Namur (Belgium), Bisiaux, who will turn 18 on February 14, was the favorite of the race.

The Auvergnat, a member of Team AG2R Citroën U19, broke away at the start of the third of the six laps of the circuit to win with an 11-second lead.

"I had a lot of pressure but it was positive for me, I was ready for the battle against the Belgians and the Dutch", declared the one who is also champion of France, at the end of a disputed race in front of the great crowd (more than 50,000 spectators according to the organization).

"A great race"

"Technically, I really had a good race. I was never afraid," he explained again when he suffered a chain jump on the last lap, ultimately without consequence.

Two other races are on the program for the day: the women's U23 world championship (1:00 p.m.) and the top race of the men's Elites with the highly anticipated duel between the Belgian Wout Van Aert and the Dutchman Mathieu van der Poel.
